Franz Keto Bread Scam

Franz Keto Bread ScamFranz Keto Bread ScamFranz Keto Bread Scam. You know, it seems that about every 3 or 4 years another slew of Low Carb Bread Scams come along and Franz Keto Bread Scam is now the newest in a very long line of companies to cheat, lie, steal from, and poison the diabetic and low carb communities. As a diabetic, I had occasion to try glucose testing this bread back on August 23rd, 2020 with disasterous results. There has been a lot of buzz about this bread and it is selling by the 100’s of 1,000s of loaves (millions?) to an unsuspecting public. A very well-known and well-respected company in the keto lowcarb community began selling this Franz “NOT Keto” Bread. I know the owner of this company (you would too), I emailed him and got what I thought was a very-well reasoned response but sadly I had to disagree with him. I bought another loaf, tested it again on December 14th, 2020 with equally bad results so I took it to Element Food Testing Laboratory (formerly Exova) here in Portland, OR, had it tested and WOW not even close. Below are my readings from the first test on August 23rd, 2020 and then the readings from December 14th, 2020. Below my testing, are the actual lab reports.

My testing method was and always has been to take a fasting reading, eat the suspected product, and take a reading every ½ hour until it begins to come down. The bread was eaten untoasted, unbuttered, and gagged down with water.

I am, for the first time ever, publishing my lab results. I’ve not done this before because lab results are not necessarily easy to read and understand but the Nutrition Facts Label based on the report and also generated by Element, pretty well tells the story. Anyway, I thought you all might want to see how the process works. Normally I would immediately file a report with the FDA and then wait for the sparks to fly.  In a court room, it is never slander or libel when you have the proof. I know one thing for sure:  I believe Franz Bakery and their falsely labeled Keto Bread products are ripe for a HUGE class action lawsuit because they have sold millions of loaves of bread (and hamburger buns) to the tune of millions and millions of dollars. Think Dreamfield’s Pasta.

Hoping that when you see the ingredients (See Picture 2 Above) in this falsely advertised and labeled bread (or other breads with similar ingredients and there are many of them now) you will steer clear of them. If you are diabetic they are doing damage to you every time you eat them whether you realize it or not. Dr. Bernstein says that every time you elevate your BGL over 140 it is doing damage and…I believe this. If you’re not diabetic, just doing keto, and your endocrine system is working properly, then you will probably be OK but just know that this Franz Keto Bread is also stressing your system every time you eat it. THIS FRANZ KETO BREAD  is NOT Keto and…if you are like most people you are eating 2 slices of bread or 26g of carbohydrates. If you subtract fiber from carbs you are still getting a whopping 20g net carb count with NO REAL FOOD VALUE.

Here are a couple of lame responses from Franz Bakery that I got when I began tweeting about it but before having it tested. Don’t you just love their answers? I guess maybe they think this will absolve them from any liability? As for most people’s medical provider? Most medical providers don’t know their asses from their elbows about nutrition or diabetes and nearly no diabetic (I know) has kept a food diary and tested themselves three times a day for well over 10 years which is what I have done. You could ask me what I ate on any given day and I would be able to tell you not only what I ate, but how it affected my BGL. I have never injected insulin nor taken diabetic medicine of any kind which makes me a pretty good testing subject.

Here are a couple of misc. pics and as you can see the bread is not very good looking. The crusts were falling off and they had multiple holes in them. I ate two of those pieces.

Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological Lies

Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological LiesYou know, I truly did think I was done with Heath Squier and the Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological Lies but hey, we all make mistakes and I made one.  I got an email from one of their customers a couple of days ago complaining about the “new size” of the “new” Paleo Wraps and wanted to maybe know what to do about it.

Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological Lies

Picture Sent Courtesy Of A Julian Bakery Customer Who Feels Cheated

On December 9th Julian Bakery put up a picture of their “new” Paleo Wraps on Facebook saying they would be slightly bigger, stronger and even more flavorful.  The wrap looked quite familiar to me but wow, they looked pretty good and would be available in 4-6 weeks so I waited…with baited breath and…on February 17th the “real new” Paleo Wraps arrived and um, they didn’t even remotely look like the promised new wraps.  What were these things?  Supposedly were bigger which they are not.  The old wraps were not even close to the old advertised size of 8”x8” which was false as they were 7⅛”x 7⅛” at best and yes, I measured them.  Measured Paleo Wrap  At least their nearest competitor tells the truth on their website Nucoconut saying their coconut wraps are 7″x7″.  As you can see in the comparison picture above from their customer the “real new” wraps are even smaller.  My guess would be maybe somewhere north of 6½” but certainly not as advertised at 7½”.  Look at all the Surface Area that has been lost from square to round.  Right on the front of the package is says:  Now Larger, Holds More Filling.  How would it be possible for something with less surface area to hold more?

Meanwhile last June 7th, @SieteFoods re-tweeted a picture by @PrimalKitchenCo with a gorgeous picture of a Seite Wrap. (picture left)  This gets pretty twisted here so stay with me.  Doesn’t it seem a bit strange that the Julian Bakery’s 1st picture (center) looks suspiciously like the Siete Wrap?  And then I realized why that 1st Julian Bakery picture looked so familiar-they were probably using a Siete Wrap for their photo shoot and would worry about what was actually coming later.  Well, later has arrived and it seems the new wraps are not as promised.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that if you are using another company’s wrap and yours looks like a mud pie then it probably won’t go over very well with your customers and would you eat these things? (picture right)  I’m pretty sure that using another company’s product to advertise yours may be illegal and might be considered fraud and false advertising.  Anyway Heath, after you read this you might want to think about what you may have done.  No company worth their salt would advertise your December 9th picture and end up actually selling your new mud wraps.

Not many people have reviewed these new wraps on Amazon Reviews Here but thus far all are 1 Star Reviews.  Can’t wait for the “purchased” fake reviews to begin showing up…again.

Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological LiesOh and yea, the new wraps are being made in the US as stated alright…In Texas.  Now last we knew, Heath Squier owns a bakery so why would a bakery not be making their own tortillas for heaven’s sake?  Huh?  They say “they have modified the wraps and they are darker” and I say no kidding Sherlock.

Sorry Julian Bakery but I think you need to go back to your drawing board and this is why I continue to call Heath Squier, acting for the Julian Bakery, a pathological liar.  Is he frightened?  My guess is probably, very frightened, because I don’t think people are going to go for these brown mud pies.

Julian Bakery’s Continuing Pathological LiesIf everyone still believes in the tooth fairy and Santa Clause then I suggest you continue drinking the Julian Bakery “paleo” Kool-Aid.  Below Heath Squier is now saying that typhoon (Haiyan 2013?) (Nina 2016?) wiped out his manufacturing facilities?  Say What?  But hey the old coconut wraps will be back in a few months and I guess maybe that’s when he wins all the lawsuits. (see below)  A toast to Heath:  Here’s “mud wraps” in your eye.

Last statement:  Julian Bakery is in the middle of two huge lawsuits and one minor one (with me).  The first is Defense Nutrition LLC vs Julian Bakery Inc for non-payment of over $506,000  and the 2nd  is with Nucoconut over the use of the term Paleo Wrap or coconut wrap or some such crap.  And yes, I do have copies of all court filings and documents to date.

Defense Nutrition vs Julian Bakery

Defense Nutrition vs Julian BakeryDefense Nutrition vs Julian Bakery. As we pretty much now know, Heath Squier and the Julian Bakery are unable to utter much truth.  In fact the only way I would know if Heath were telling the truth is if his mouth were sewn shut.  Julian Bakery is all over their own website, FaceBook and Twitter telling people how they make their Paleo & Primal Bars fresh in Oceanside, CA which seems to be pretty far from any truth I might know of.

Heath Squier could have let sleeping dogs lie but…he decided to sue me again…for the same old thing-slander and defamation.  If he had not filed the lawsuit against me I never would have had access to the full Defense Nutrition vs Julian Bakery Court Docs.  He is being sued for over $506,000. and I am here to tell you, in my world that is one pot-load full of money.

He has posted all over the internet that they had “equipment failure” which ended up being months and months and no company worth its salt would have equipment down that long at least with over “500,000 new customers”.  In one of the pictures he says that have gained 500,000 new customers in one month and in another picture he says they got an (“additional”?) 162,000.  Now we know the real reason, it wasn’t equipment failure; it was failure OK. Failure to pay his bills.

Heath also decided to see if he could get Google-YouTube to take down my video of their moldy Paleo Bars YouTube Complaint but YouTube seemed to see it differently as it was the truth being told and certainly Freedom Of Speech in action.

On June 11th I made a prediction on Julian Bakery Scam Facebook Page  My prediction:  The Julian Bakery was not making their own Paleo Bars and guess what…Turns out I was right.

The Julian Bakery talks about how the Paleo Bars are being made fresh in Oceanside, CA when in truth they were being made 2 hours north in Tarzana, CA by Defense Nutrition.

One last little thing.  Heath has also been asked questions as to where their Protein Whey Products are made to which he had answered:  In a gluten free area of of their facilities.  If you read the Court Docs you saw an invoice in the amount of $109,298. for various whey powder products which remain unpaid and are part of the lawsuit. So there you have the complete sorted story.  The Julian Bakery has NOT been making their own Paleo Bars, Primal bars, or Whey Products which means they never had any equipment failures, and they owe Defense Nutrition over $506,000.  Whew, what a story.

Julian Bakery Going Around Coming Around

Julian Bakery Going Around Coming AroundThere is a term for what the Julian Bakery has practiced over the years called Economically Motivated Food Fraud EMFA and a more crude way of saying it might be “lying to make money”.  It has just come to light that not only is the Julian Bakery embroiled in a 3rd Lawsuit, they are also enmeshed in their 4th Lawsuit in as many years.  They 100% brought it on themselves, and this time as defendants in  Defense Nutrition LLC vs Julian Bakery Inc. I don’t know the charges yet but I imagine it may have to do with non-payment in the manufacturing of Paleo Bars, Paleo Protein Powders, and which may also include SAF Berbering and Glycozine.  As they say:  What Goes Around Comes Around.

So now I think I kind of get it.  Their Paleo Bars are being sold everywhere, including even E-Bay.  Julian Bakery hasn’t had the Coconut Shred flavor for at least 6 months and I think maybe much longer. Here are the Cinnamon Rolls, the Sunflower Butter, the Blueberry Tart, the Almond Fudge, and of course you get the idea.  These are probably people who ordered them directly from either Amazon or the company itself, realized how absolutely revolting they are, and thought what-the-heck let’s try E-Bay.  So on to the Paleo Wraps story…

pure-wrapsAbout 4 years ago when Heath Squier, owner and CEO of the Julian Bakery couldn’t get the company Improveat to private label their Original Pure Wraps coconut wraps he went to the Philippines and began having his Paleo Wraps made which he in turn imported.  Who cared if another successful company had legally been doing the same thing for years?  Fast forward and now another company, NuCoconut has/is doing the same thing to the Julian Bakery.  Heath has lost his manufacturer and apparently is no longer able to get his coconut Paleo Wraps made (hence the lawsuit) and awe, what a shame.  Oh, he may still have wraps stashed away as the shelf life is 8-9 months but it appears he is unable to import any more of them and if you click to the Julian Bakery Paleo Page they are no longer listed.

My Paleo WrapsJulian Bakery is also no longer selling their Paleo Wraps on/thru Amazon and worst of all, if they haven’t already run out; they will soon be off the shelves of his two largest buyers-Whole Foods and Sunfood.  Both of these companies are huge and Whole Foods will care less about carrying Paleo Wraps but Sunfood may be a different matter.

sunfoodIf Sunfood wished to continue selling their wraps they could, possibly, have NuCoconut private label for them. This of course cuts out the ole Julian Bakery.  Quite noticeable on the older Sunfood label in the lower right corner it says developed by: Julian Bakery, Inc.  Julian Bakery no more developed a coconut wrap than I can fly-all they did was steal it.

turmeric-wrapsJulian Bakery On Thrive Market is already out of Turmeric Paleo Wraps and how long before they run out of the regular wraps?  And speaking of Turmeric Wraps NuCoconut has that covered too.

NUCO On Amazon is the only company selling on/thru Amazon besides the Original Pure Wraps by Improveat.

Yes, the Julian Bakery still has old labeled wraps on Amazon but they are being sold by some third party seller going by the name PowerForApple  and at $2.00 per wrap+shipping how many to you think are being sold?

nuco-coconut-wrapsNuCo has their bases covered with all the sparkly little bells & whistles and one very important little teeny tiny thing at the very bottom of the label where it says Patent Pending:  Philippine Intellectual Property Office.

julian-bakery-patent-pendingpaleo-wrapspaleo-wraps-2Now Heath Squier has been all over the internet bragging about a pending patent on his Paleo Wraps, he touted it on his website and then printed it on his packaging but it seems he does not really have any pending patent and we all know you can say anything you want on the internet.  The NuCoconut Team appear to all be Philippine Nationals and one is…ready… an attorney specializing in Intellectual Property Rights so…good luck with that one Heath.

coco-farm-wrapscoco-farm-turmeric-wrapsLastly, there was this little Julian Bakery miss-adventure trying to get a foot-hold in Australia for a short time.  These wraps had been distributed by Across The Pacific Trading Company Pty Ltd located in Pelican Water QLD Au and now owned by So Delicious Dairy Free which make some absolutely fabulous sugar-free products.  Elsewhere on this site I have likened the Julian Bakery to an octopus and this is just further evidence.  I have to say that there must be a pot-load of money in coconut wraps world-wide as so many companies seem to want to steal the idea from the guy ahead of them.

It is my opinion that the Julian Bakery may finally be out of their league and about to meet their Waterloo.  Their Falsely Labeled Paleo Bars, which are about all they have left to sell, are horrible as attested by many people.  The Julian Bakery has poisoned, lied to, and bilked the diabetic and the lowcarb communities for far too long and I believe it is high-time for it to stop.  I am hoping this may finally be the death knell of the Julian Bakery.

Just Delicious Diabetic Bakery Low Carb Scam

Just Delicious Diabetic BakeryYep, another low carb scam…let alone they call themselves the Just Delicious Diabetic Bakery.  This bakery, according to owner Nanette Goin, has been selling products to hospitals, on line sales nationwide and through the Kroger Corp for 7 years and if that’s not bad enough news?  They are right in my back yard here in Portland, OR.

I got an email from one of my readers who didn’t think the calories in this product were correct and could I, or would I, check it out.  My husband had taken me to visit this diabetic bakery about 4 years ago.  I did not buy anything and I can say this for certain-that many of the products are laden with some sort of “cream”.  With all the new fangled crapola they put into processed food these days it is sometimes pretty hard to tell by looking at labels but I do know that the 2g carbs claimed on it’s label with the first two ingredients as bleached enriched wheat flour and malted barley flour didn’t seem right so I decided to buy 3 of the éclairs, do a glucose test with one and if it jacked up my blood sugar I would have the two others tested.

My test results for the éclair are below and the claimed 2g carbs would not begin to up my blood sugar this high.  I believe the only reason it did not go MUCH HIGHER is that it was mitigated by so, so much (unhealthy) fats.  I mean like wow 8g vs 65g of fat and 200 vs 740 calories and come on-31g carbs?  See label comparisons below.  I was originally going to test their cream puffs but after testing one, when I returned to buy more from my local Fred Meyer, I was given some song and dance about the clamshell container the bakery was using would no longer be available to them so I had to start over with another product I could test and then send to Exova Labs but I have included my testing of the cream puff too.

I want to emphasize that I DO NOT inject insulin and I DO NOT take any diabetic drugs which in my opinion makes me a perfect guinea pig to test any supposed low carb product.

UPDATE:  Just so you know, this now defunct bakery was sold and goes under the name Sin-Ablesweets at https://www.sin-ablesweets.com/ and instead of the words #Diabetic Bakery” they are calling it a “Dietetic Bakery”. It’s the same high carb garbage with the same recipes.

Moores Law As Applied To Most Alternative Sweeteners

Lily PondMoore’s Law.  Do you know what it is? Question: A lily pad grows so that each day it doubles its size in (area). On the 30th day it completely covers the pond choking out all life. On what day of its growth was the pond half covered?  See bottom for the answer.

The lily pad coverage grows very slowly in the first several days and then as it exponentially grows, the time shortens very quickly.

New TruviaMoore’s law as applied to most alternative sweeteners happens the same way.  Example:  Truvia® Brown Sugar Blend an erythritol/sugar blend states a serving size as ½ t and 1g net carb.  Doesn’t sound so bad huh?  But going a little further the real net carbs per cup is 144g. If you compare that to one cup of real sugar at 200g carbs per cup we begin to see a large narrowing of any difference between Truvia and sugar. Many dessert recipes call for 1½-2 cups of sugar so you are now at a whopping 216g-288g carb in a dessert recipe. This is the law of exponentiality. Starts out small and quickly grows out of control.

Swerve SweetenerSwerve LabelThe same thing happens with plain erythritol which again is why a serving size =1 t with 0 calories and 0g carbs. I will say there is one added benefit of erythritol: It Makes a Terrific Insecticide. But… Swerve has the bonus of…an Oligosaccharide which we now know…is a sugar.

As I know it the only 0 Calorie 0 Carb sweetener is www.justlikesugar.com which states on it’s label: Serving Size 1 Cup and…bonus…it’s paleo. As you look at the nutritional label done by Anresco Testing Laboratories this product does not multiply exponentially.  It is 0 calories at .5g and it is 0 calories at 100g (1 Cup) The carbs increase but proportionally-so does fiber.Just Like Sugar Nutritionals

So the deal is, not only do you need to read the nutritional labels you also need to be a math genius and you can take this to the bank…companies know it…and take full advantage.

Answer: Day 29

Can Diabetes Really Be Cured? Yet?

Can Diabetes Really Be Cured? Can Diabetes Really Be Cured? I started writing this post at least a month ago and because of “other things” it has been on the shelf percolating. We all know that when something sits for a while thoughts can change. I am now ready to charge after Dr. Jason Fung and his cadre of supporters now saying that diabetes can be “CURED” and I say:  The Emperor Has No Clothes.

It is my opinion they use the term “cured” as nothing more than website clickbait.  I am not the only person questioning this but up against “experts” and other doctors? I will be no match.

Most people tend to believe the words said by someone using the prefix Dr. (as in medical). They are expected to know what they are talking about and certainly (but not always) they mostly do. They have gone to school for many years and believe they have the right to be respected.  In my world there is no “right” to respect-it needs to be earned.

In Dr. Richard Bernstein’s Book Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution he tells in his story that though he knew carbohydrates were the problem for both Type I and Type II diabetes absolutely no one paid any attention to him until…he went to medical school, got his degree, and earned that prefix Dr.  As the years passed he became, and still is, the foremost and preeminent authority on diabetes.  He used his knowledge well and for good.  Dr. Richard Bernstein is considered by many including myself as the world’s leading expert on blood glucose control for diabetics and still takes the high ground.  In all his years he has never used the terms cured or reversed when referring to diabetes.

As I know it, there is no cure for diabetes. It may certainly be controlled via KETO or a LCHF eating program which is what I do, but a cure?-No. There are thousands of doctors and research scientists world-wide looking for that magic bullet cure for diabetes and you can bet your bottom dollar if and when it happens, it will be shouted from every mountain top in the known universe and there will be Nobel Prizes being handed out.

A nephrologist is a medical doctor specializing in kidney care and the treatment of diseases of the kidneys.  At least here in Portland, Oregon almost all nephrologists are associated with either OHSU or a renal dialysis center because their patients either need to be closely monitored or worse, are already on dialysis. I know of what I speak as my husband was a twice kidney transplant patient and over the years I ask many, many questions of his nephrologist. We actually became pretty good friends. A nephrologist sees the sickest of patients with amputated limbs who sadly can be in the throes with end-of-life problems mostly brought on with the advent of uncontrolled diabetes. (This was not the case with my husband-he did not have diabetes and it was never ascertained why his kidneys failed at age 42).

Rally Round The Flag Boys.

The big squawk arose when a well known Canadian nephrologist, Dr. Jason Fung began talking about a “cure” for diabetes. When I, and others, began questioning his use of the term “cure” many of the LCHF doctors began surrounding this nephrologist’s wagon.  I met several of these doctors on the Low Carb Cruise last summer and I do not remember any of them talking about curing diabetes. This seems to be something new.

It’s been pretty well documented that Bariatric surgery helps with Type II diabetes and they are not even sure why but we do know this-it is mostly used with severely or morbidly obese patients and let’s face it, once you have this surgery your food intake is vastly reduced and at any given time you are not able to consume many carbohydrates anyway (or much of any other food for that matter) which seems to me to perhaps be a key.

The slide show below is taken from Dr. Fung’s videos.

If you don’t think people are desperate (they are) then read the hundreds of Comments following each video and as far as I read them, Dr. Fung does not answer many of the questions and only uses very generalized statements like:  A LCHF whole foods diet.  Eat real food.  It can include animal protein but not in excess.  It’s a high fat (natural real fat) diet not a high protein. Ketogenic or LCHF has been used by many to reverse diabetes.  We add intermittent fasting. Dr. Fung talks of different cultures who fast and notes Ramadan, yet the Middle East has some of the highest numbers of cases of diabetes in the world. I have been in Dubai and I can attest there are many obese and diabetic Middle-Easterners and to tell you the truth I was flabbergasted. Does anyone have any idea what the percentage of the general population, let alone diabetics that will fast and my question is: Are you kidding me?

Learned HelplessnessDr. Fung puts his patients on fasts anywhere between 18 hrs. to 200 days depending on their level of insulin resistance. What is the percentage of people who can stick with this? Does fasting hurt you?  No, I don’t think fasting hurts anyone short-term but the problem is fasting is not a very easy, sustainable way of life. How many of the people who have watched Dr. Fung’s three videos have gotten pumped up about fasting only to fail yet again at controlling their diabetes?

Outsmart DiabetesThese are the covers of  magazines for Pete’s sake.  The ADA is famous for it’s promotion of “Learned Helplessness”.  They continually say that diabetics deserve to eat the same way everyone else eats.  Really?  Keep eating the same high carby crap that got them to diabetes in the first place?  Hey ADA, keep pushing that s**t and keep people feeding at the trough of BigPharma.  Who is really being outsmarted here?  Say Yes to the donut?  In the future you may be saying yes to death. All 13 magazine covers have sugary desserts splashed across them.

Click on the pictures. Most of the headlines are simply criminal. Love the one that says stay on your feet…that would be…if you still have feet to stay on.

EmperorBottom line: Long term fasting is not a way of life but eating LCHF is.

  • Dr. Fung says the truth is:
  • Diabetes is a curable dietary disease
  • Diabetes is a disease of high insulin resistance and treatment is directed to lowering resistance

Now if Dr. Fung and others are able to get diabetics eating low carb by telling them they can be “cured” then so be it, but I believe truth is the best policy and using the word “cured” as clickbait…is not truth and the emperor…has no clothes.

Julian Bakery Fakery Crackery

Crackers Box Closeup 3The Julian Bakery has recently released two new products on the heels of their four recent epic paleo faileos which include Paleo Protein Bars, Paleo Almond Bread, Paleo Coconut Bread, and their original Paleo Almond Thin Crackers.  The new products are now available on Amazon Paleo Thin Crackers and a Do It Yourself Paleo Bread Mix.

There were two reviewers who put their Julian Bakery order #’s in their 5 Star Reviews and I found this very strange.  Marie Boromei was the very 1st reviewer and the 2nd one was deleted but after lots of detective work I found it along with my 2nd comment.  Missing Verified Purchase Review  I sure as hell would like to know how Heath Squier had a bonafide Verified Purchaser’s review deleted.  I made a comment under Marie’s review (See Below), asking her a question and the dope spilled the beans and actually answered saying:  “because there was a sticker on chips that said if I put it on review I would receive a FREE box of the crackers!”  Now I have no idea how Brad T. made it to Amazon to make his comment as he had not made a review of the product and it is my best guess that he was directed by Julian Bakery to make it. We apparently have a lot or “former” diabetics running around.

For Further reading regarding The Corruption Of The Amazon Review System Please See:

Crackers Box CloseupBased on the two reviewers who put their order #’s in their reviews I ordered the crackers through Amazon for myself. Well, low & behold my box of crackers has that same little sticker and whadda ya know. This is in direct violation of Amazon seller policies and the Julian Bakery had to sign those papers. The big Q?: What will Amazon do? Amazon has been caught with their pants down so many times and seem unable to keep up with the corruption within their system.Marie Boromei

Boromei CommentsWithout a little sticker directing them what to do, these two bread mix reviewers have no idea what they are doing and there are virtually no reviews but The Julian Bakery comments are priceless.  Heath Squier must be beside himself wondering why he didn’t put a sticker on the bread mix too and I bet he will begin as he also sells from his own site.  We will know when the 5 Star Reviews begin to pile up. Gail? She must be talking about their Pancake Mix.Bread Comments

I filed a very Detailed Complaint Letter With Amazon to jeff@amazon.com and if anyone else gets one of those little stickers on their crackers?  I might suggest instead of FREE crackers you write a complaint to Jeff Bezos and then give an honest opinion of the crackers because they are seriously horrible, the crummy cellophane wrapping had a hole in it, the crackers were crushed and crumbs fell all over the counter when I opened them.  Another Julian Bakery Paleo Faileo and I hope Heath Squier poops his pants when he sees this because I am going to keep working with Amazon until they get rid of him.

This was the end of the post as of yesterday and this is today. I am here to let you know that one little old woman can make a difference. Obviously the email to Jeff Bezos got some pretty swift action. The item is now under review and is Currently Unavailable and what do you know.Under Review

Three Days Later, all is well, and the crackers are for sale again on Amazon.  What does this tell us?…That Amazon is knowingly selling the crackers with the stickers still on them.  As I know it, it would be impossible for Julian Bakery to replace their stocks of crackers in three days all over the country in all the Amazon fulfillment centers.Three Days Later  It is indeed a sad day.

Sugar Alcohols (Polyols) And Why I Don’t Use Them

Sugar Alcohols (Polyols) And Why I Don’t Use ThemThere are many sugar alcohol products out there and they are not, as many people believe, “free” carbohydrates. When you look at a nutritional label for any given product containing sugar alcohols you can not simply subtract the total gram count from the carb count-it is more complex than it seems. Their common names are: Erythritol, Isomalt, Lactitol, Maltitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Xylitol.

The effects sugar alcohols have on your blood glucose can vary so it is difficult to know how they will affect your levels every time.

From the ADA (of which I am NO fan):  Because there is less effect from sugar alcohols than either sugar or starch, you can use the following to estimate how much carbohydrate from a serving to count in your meal plan for foods that contain more than 5 grams sugar alcohols.

  • When a food has more than 5 grams of sugar alcohols:
  • Subtract ½ the grams sugar alcohol from the amount of total carbohydrate.
  • Count the remaining grams of carbohydrate in your meal plan.

Note: This tip is useful for those who are intensively managing their diabetes with insulin or advanced carbohydrate counting.

Example: Portion 1 bar
Total carbohydrate 15 grams, with 6 grams of sugar alcohol
One bar counts as 12 grams carbohydrate (15 – 3 = 12)

Another example from the University of California San Francisco Calculating Sugar Alcohols

I saw a dessert recipe on the internet the other day that has 2½ C of Swerve in it. The recipe serves 12 and each serving is listed as: 12g Carbs, 5g Fiber, 7g Net Carbs.
Swerve is an erythritol-oligosaccharides mixture and while they say they are Non-GMO we only have their word for it. It has NOT been NON-GMO Project VERIFIED and no matter how you cut it, it is lab-made with “natural flavorings”.

Swerve LabelSo let’s analyze this recipe a bit. Swerve’s label says 5g erythritol and 5g carbs per teaspoon. Using the calculations above; multiply the erythritol use by 120 (number of teaspoons in 2½ C) which is 600g per the whole recipe. Now ÷ 600 by 2=300 then ÷ by 12 (number of servings) and you come up with 25g carbohydrates which is a far cry from 7g and this doesn’t count the rest of the ingredients, of which there are many.

While Swerve may list only 5g erythritol in 1 teaspoon it seems disingenuous when the actual sugar alcohol’s grams are not all counted and subtracted properly from the total carb count. I do not consider Swerve or any other polyol to be low carb or diabetic friendly (unless maybe using only 1 t) and if you are an injecting diabetic I would suggest taking this into serious consideration.

LakantoEvery company nowadays wants to tell you they are NON-GMO and they may indeed be but with the little sticker below means it’s true. If you still wish to use erythritol and I know many of you do, then at least consider Lakanto NON-GMO Project Verified if you are interested in a better erythritol with NO “natural flavors”.  Is it expensive?  Whew Doggie yes it is and according to the reviews I have read it tastes pretty good. They have a white & a golden which is suppose to be a little like brown sugar.

Sugar Alcohols (Polyols) And Why I Don’t Use ThemNon Gmo VerifiedSugar Alcohols (Polyols) And Why I Don’t Use Them

I recently had occasion to talk with my chemist about all this and he explained it so well that I think anyone can understand it. It doesn’t matter if you are eating sugar or an artificial sweetener of any kind as they all raise your insulin response. You body is “tricked” into releasing insulin when your mouth, thus your brain, detects anything sweet coming in and over time your insulin response stops working when no carbohydrate is detected.  (I am thinking this would also include stevia which I cannot abide anyway).  When you do have sugar, starch or any number of carbs your insulin response will not kick in to cover them.  And me?  Though there are lots of dessert recipes on this site, I have pretty much stopped eating them altogether, I will not post anymore of them,  and I do not use polyols.

Amazon Sues Over Fake Reviews

Fake Amazon Reviews 1OK, I think I now have the final pieces to the Amazon Fake Reviews puzzle. One of the questions I have always asked myself was how, all of a sudden, the Julian Bakery’s 5 star reviews began showing as Verified Purchases and now I think I have the answer.  There was a(nother) big Brouhaha all over the internet yesterday about Amazon going after fake reviewers Amazon Sues 1,100 Fiverr Users For Fake Product Reviews and my take on this is 180° from Amazons. Once again Amazon goes after the Whores (Reviewers) and leaves the Johns (Julian Bakery) alone.  I say ban the Johns from ever selling on Amazon again.  As listed below #’s 9,10, and 11 pretty much tell the story. These are what Bess 98 has listed under her profile and what she can do for you for a measly $5.00. And I also now understand why some of the Julian Bakery’s Fake Reviews sound like they were composed and written by Heath Squier or one of his hokey minions. Too bad the actual products are so horrid.

For Further reading regarding The Corruption Of The Amazon Review System Please See:

In the Amazon Lawsuit Court Papers on Page 7 line 23. Amazon takes the integrity of its customer reviews very seriously. Amazon has developed sophisticated technologies and protocols to detect and remove such reviews from its websites. Amazon scours its site for fake reviews, removes them when it finds them, and suspends sellers that post or purchase fake reviews (Yea Right Amazon Liars-Hell I’m helping them and they still will not delete them) and Page 11 line 42. Amazon maintains contracts with each seller of goods or services on Amazon’s site, as each such user agreed to the Amazon Conditions of Use.

Notably, the company did not name the Amazon sellers who hired them in the first place. Under the company’s legal arguments, those sellers would be liable, too.

Love how they talk about a small fraction of Fake Reviews.

The Julian Bakery often bought 3, 4, or 5 Fake Reviews from one reviewer at a time for any of their various products and then go on to the next reviewer and repeat. If you look at #2 she has more that 30 different accounts & ips.

Victoria’s Review Of More Julian Bakery Chicanery

Moldy Chocolate Mint Paleo BarAs stated elsewhere, I have a Google alert for the Julian Bakery and once in awhile something juicy comes to my inbox.  This was one of those times. Here is Victoria’s Julian Bakery Paleo Protein Bars: A Review  Fast forward a couple of days after Victoria’s review and as if by magic a new “View Lab Results” appeared on the Julian Bakery site as 230 calories which leads me to believe they have taken some original letterhead from some Canadian Testing Laboratory and put their own nutritional label on it.  This would be so ILLEGAL. I can tell you from experience it is totally impossible to get a product tested (again) and have results back in two days and there is no way in HELL any testing laboratory would put this statement on its lab report:  Net Carbs=Total Carbs –Fibre –Sugar Alcohols Total Dietary Fiber = includes IMO Fiber.   According to the Julian Bakery web page this product does not even have any sugar alcohols listed. Chocolate Mint Paleo Protein Bars. There is no receiving date of this product, no results date, and this is definitely not like any lab results I have ever seen and I have seen many of them. I want to reiterate these are not Lab Results.  It is (I believe) a fictitious and totally made up “new” nutritional label.  I think what we are seeing here is the total breakdown of the Julian Bakery and their web of lies and deceit.

Here is Victoria’s follow-up three days later Oh, This Means War and the Julian Bakery email responses are priceless.  Julian’s Bakery: Worst Customer Service! Her last words are:  On that note …buyer beware!

Mauzone Mania-Another Low Carb Scam Artist Discovered

MM Chocolate BiscottiThere is now a new low carb scam artist on the block going by the name Mauzone Mania and they are being sued. Mauzone Mania Lawsuit  I didn’t even discover them, much to my chagrin.  I have said there are so many falsely labeled low carb products being marketed to diabetics and the low carb community that it’s pretty hard to keep up with them.  I kind of have to pick and choose and go after the most egregious and apparently the law firm Gainey McKenna & Egleston located in NJ and NY believes this company is pretty bad.  Below are some pictures of the offending products along with a chart showing the lab tested differences and some of the differences… are humongous.  There are more flavors available in many of the products shown.

Partial List Of Julian Bakery Paid Fake Amazon Reviewers

Moldy Paleo Bar VideoSince Amazon has chosen to cherry pick and take down just a few of the Paid Fake Reviewers (that I reported earlier) I am going to start listing them here and see if I can get some action this way.  I am only one person so of course it would be impossible for me to find the 100’s of 1,000’s of Amazon’s site-wide fake reviews but get this-the few they have taken down?  Many of the reviews still remain on the products reviewed.

Many of the names have changed (morphed) 3 or 4 times over the months but as I said, their reviews remain and it is my opinion that if the offending companies were no longer able to sell through Amazon ever again it would send a chill through the rest of the sellers buying or contemplating buying paid fake reviews.  It is also my opinion that it is not the fault of the paid reviewers or the websites thru which a company can buy fake reviews but the myriad companies buying them and ultimately for Amazon allowing it to happen.

Amazon, you do not need to sue anyone, you just need to bar sellers for life from selling thru Amazon when they are caught purchasing reviews which would be a very easy task.  Perhaps it might show that you care less about greed and money than the people you are cheating and who depend on Amazon reviews before buying a product because the bottom line is, at this time, you make money from fake reviews.

What I Want:  All the 1000’s of fake Amazon Reviewers and all their attending reviews to be permanently removed from Amazon and it should be easy enough for you to accomplish this. I also want Julian Bakery, Paleo Inc., any other names Heath Squier markets under, as well as any of the third party sellers on Amazon selling Julian Bakery products to be barred from ever selling through Amazon again. As I said this would send a chilling message to your other sellers that are buying or contemplating buying paid fake reviews. Do an interview with the NY Times, making it known to everyone. Shout it from the rooftops. It might allow people to begin trusting the Amazon review system again because at this point it is infested and severely broken.

NOTE:  These are the fake reviewers purchased to date by Julian Bakery for their inedible and moldy Paleo Protein Bars.  What you are about to see below (if you look at any of them) is the most convoluted crap I have run across in my 68 years of life. Number of reviews in ( ). I have now listed all the ones I can verify as FAKE reviews.

As you can see a few of these reviewers have only a few but many have several hundred and a few have 300, 400, and more.  Many are now choosing to hide some of their activity.

Below is a little slide show of many (certainly not all) of the reviewed products these FAKERS have in common and something else they have in common?…Nearly 100% 5 Star Reviews.

A lot of these fake reviewers like the cover name Amazon Customer (359) This one is an obvious faker and seems to love writing for the paleo and low carb community. He (she) made 54 reviews (3 for Julian Bakery alone) on September 18th, using one or two words like:  great, awesome, excellent, good, love it, my fav, & the best.

This Amazon Customer (100) wrote 64 fake reviews on September 6, 2015 with 42 reviews simply saying: Perfect order. No problems. Even at $5.00-$10.00 a pop that’s $320-$640. Not a bad haul for 1 days work.

Be sure to read these two product review gems this guy wrote: Jay Soliz or click below. Can you imagine what their Star Rating would be without all the paid fake reviews? Whoa Dogie!

This is not fun for me and I did not seek out the Julian Bakery. As a diabetic the Julian Bakery targeted me, bombarding me over and over on the internet with their falsely advertised and falsely labeled low carb breads. Over the months and as a result of that experience, I became seriously committed to ferreting out low carb scam artists who, for the love of money, poison thousands of diabetics daily. The Julian Bakery is by no means the only company targeting diabetics, but they were the largest and targeting us since 2009.

Though my attention seems to be focused on the Julian Bakery, it has also been focused on these companies:

With the help of the FDA and the California Dept of Health I have put these two low carb scam companies out of business Eat-Rite Foods and my interview with Fox5TV in NYC sealed the demise of Carb Krunchers.  Again, with the help of the FDA and the Utah Dept of Health I am working on The Low Carb WiO Diet Scam

Thank you for the consideration of all.

Anatomy Of An Amazon Sponsored Fake Reviewer

Fake Amazon Reviews 1Have you ever purchased anything from Amazon? This article is for you even if you are one of the few who have not. Amazon has allowed fake reviewing to continue for many years because the bottom line is: People read them, perhaps buy a product, thus lining the pockets of Jeff Bezos.

If you think for one minute Amazon couldn’t stop this you are wrong. There are many algorithms that could catch fake reviews before they ever were to go up. Think about it, if I can so easily find them don’t you think Amazon can?  At one time, several months back, Amazon made a big to-do about all this by filing a lawsuit against a website that sponsored fake reviewers. I don’t have a clue how this suit is going, it will probably last for many years, the website is still up, and meanwhile, Amazon has not begun to address the problem as indicated below. You have to ask yourself; is Amazon really serious about all this? My answer is an unqualified NO. I am not the first person to say this but it is always prudent to follow the money $$$$$.

Introducing Jesse M. TOP 500 REVIEWER a FAKE REVIEWER of the nth degree with 1237 Amazon Reviews in less than 10 months. Apparently he is so prolific, Amazon has bestowed him with the status badge of TOP 500 REVIEWER. What are the qualifications for these badges? Why to identify Amazon’s best reviewers of course. Are you kidding me? Fake Reviewers get top billing from Amazon for their numbers of fake reviews? I began tracking Julian Bakery over 6 months ago while they were purchasing fake reviews with abandon and this reviewer was paid for 7 Julian Bakery product reviews. Considering many of the 1237 products reviewed it would probably have cost somewhere near and possibly well over $50,000.00. He made 13 reviews July 21st, 12 reviews July 15th, 11 reviews July 11th, 17 reviews July 6th, 35 reviews July 5th, and are you ready?-A Whopping 71 reviews on June 30th etc. ad nauseum. How many reviews can you make for different no-bark dog collars, exercise machines, trampolines, earbuds, IPhone cases, to say nothing of the books?   He has reviewed dildos, something called a “Semen Voluminizer” and enough pills to make even BigPharma jealous.  Multiple music instruments, mattresses & beds and for some reason all these Fake Reviewers seem to like a book called Sex, Drugs & Islam. A dog bed for every room in a mansion the size of a castle although he says he just recently moved into an apartment from his long time dorm room.  He morphs into a woman, he’s skinny, sexy, chubby, 83 yrs. old, weighs 163 and whatever else you want in your fake reviewer. If you catch the last review he says “Hard to trust anyone especially on the internet…”  If Amazon gets rid of “Jesse M” I am ready with another and another… Oh yeah, did I mention he owns his own little cupcake shop too?

This not only affects people in the United States, it affects people worldwide as Amazon is a global company.

Consumers Beware: Amazon Reviews Are Being Deleted, Hidden And Faked

Amazon Reviews HiddenFake Amazon Reviews 1Amazon Deleted Reviews

Oh yeah, you read it right and I have ample proof below.  Do you think Amazon cares? NO, NO, and HELL NO. Amazon is the company that allows a seller to “HIDE” any review they deem detrimental and which brings down averages. This is now not about Julian Bakery poisoning diabetics, this is about poisoning the whole of the Amazon Review system.  There is at least one Amazon “Vine Voice Reviewer” Linda R. Hendrex “Rubicon”VINE VOICE that believes it is impossible to delete a review and technically she is right but only technically.  What’s the difference between deleting, hiding or removing a review so that the public cannot make an intelligent buying decision based on ALL a seller’s product reviews? I am here to let her know that her beloved Amazon not only doesn’t care but lets it go unchecked after having been notified about it by multiple people, including yours truly.

Linda says:   “However, they [An Amazon Seller] cannot remove reviews or comments on Amazon and I will be surprised if your comment on my Julian review disappears. I have been an Amazon Vine Voice for several years and even I cannot get Amazon to remove a review that I regret writing – and I am the author!”

I do not expect anyone to go back and look at pages and pages of reviews to verify all this but I am making it easy for you. As you look at the screenshots each hidden reviewers names is quite visible. As you read their reviews and if you were to go to Amazon via the dates shown they are gone.  I wonder if these reviewers will ever know they have been hidden. WOW & thank goodness for screenshots. Click on any picture to clearly read it.  The products being reviewed are the 12 Pack Julian Bakery Paleo Protein Bars and they later began doing the same thing with their 6 (7) Packs.   It never ceases to amaze me how creative and funny people can be. These are by far not all of the reviews Health Squier has hidden, I have proof of more but I would say this is a pretty good start. You know what they say:  Seeing is believing and a screenshot is worth 1,000 words and lest Heath Squier can somehow ‘magically add back the deleted (hidden) reviews’ I have also taken the appropriate screenshots to show many of them missing as of July 16th, 2015.

Julian Bakery continues cheating consumers and there is no (ZERO) integrity in the Amazon Review System.  It does not matter if a reviewer has a 5 Star “Verified Purchase” or not. Julian Bakery has proven it. They began hiding reviews on January 9th one review was written on July 17th,  was “hidden” as I was writing and the most recent after the post went up.   Apparently Julian Bakery felt it advantageous to hide (16) mostly FAKE 5 star reviews in order to hide (34) l star reviews. At the very bottom, if you get there, the last shot shows a 53% negative to 26% positive review ratio and I can’t blame them for not liking it but hey, that’s what happens when you begin lying and cheating. I wonder what the real ratio would be if not for his paid fake reviews because yes, he has bought hundreds of them and I have proof of that too.

The bottom line: Whether you use the words “deleted” or “hidden” or “removed” the result is all the same. Julian Bakery Is Breaking Amazon Seller Policies

Julian Bakery is now offering free Paleo Protein Bars on Amazon in exchange for a 5 Star Review and it is my belief this is against the Amazon Sellers Policies. Amazon says…”If you offer a free product, it must be clear that you are soliciting an unbiased review. The free product must be provided in advance; no refunds are permitted after the review is written. Review solicitations that ask for only positive reviews or that offer compensation are prohibited“.  So read the reviews below and you be the judge.  Kinda makes you question the Amazons Reviews System doesn’t it?  But hey, Amazon makes their $$$$$.  Julian Bakery has long been famous for purchasing 1,000’s of fake reviews but…since Amazon recently announced they were going after these people Heath Squier has tacked right to end run Amazon.  Click on any review to read how Julian Bakery has attempted to bribe people.

Julian Bakery, Cain Credicott, & Paleo Magazine

Paleo Magazine Logo 1I began contact with Cain Credicott, founder and editor of Paleo Magazine, regarding his centerfold advertising of the new Julian Bakery Paleo Protein Bars on February 17th. I sent a “care package” for him to try the bars, including the falsely labeled bars test results and told him I had filed yet another formal FDA complaint. His brief response was that he had gotten the package and he would be looking into it.  Fast forward…

to April 6th, when I asked him point blank:  Are you going to continue supporting the Julian Bakery by allowing them to advertise anywhere in your magazine?  I received another short reply:  “I appreciate you touching base. I am waiting to hear back from a couple different labs so we can send some bars off to get tested. Unfortunately, until we do this, I am unable to make any decisions. I expect to have more information in the next few weeks or so”.  (My thoughts are Oh Really?)

Apparently the lab results were not enough for him let alone the way they tasted and all the negative Amazon reviews. Now, nearly 2 months later he is going to have them tested too? Come on Cain. Three things come to mind: 1.) Either you are the last in the Paleo community to know about what Heath Squier has done over the past 6 years. 2.) You are sticking your ostrich head in the sand thinking this will all blow over. 3.) Or sadly, Does Paleo Money Trump Paleo Ethics Yet Again? I don’t know how much money the centerfold of Paleo Magazine commands but I am guessing maybe $7,000.-$8,000. every 2 months or about $42,000.-$48,000 per year. Is this a lot of money? You bet it is. My question is how much is someone’s integrity worth?  How much money buys a person’s soul?  Cain has already waited 2 months and hasn’t even sent the bars to be tested so how much longer can we expect to wait Cain?

This is a call-out Jimmy Moore wrote on October 1, 2014 regarding Paleo Magazine and Cain’s taking of the Julian Bakery advertising money.  If you haven’t read it, Jimmy makes very strong and valid points.  Paleo Magazine Continues Taking Advertising From Company Under FDA Scrutiny/23627 Again, it makes Cain look the fool and a money grubber for taking Julian Bakery advertising dollars.

This is a sad tarnish to the reputation of Paleo Magazine and why Cain Credicott continues defending Heath Squier and the Julian Bakery is beyond me.  Please take this to heart Cain:  People trust you and your magazine and I assume you want this trust to continue and please, don’t squander it.

Lastly, there is now yet another very recent (at least the 3rd if not 4th) Julian Bakery FDA recall and this time it is for their Paleo Protein Bars and undeclared tree nuts. (cashews) . This is an FDA Class 1 recall being defined as: Dangerous or defective products that predictably could cause serious health problems or death. How do you think stuff like this happens? How do cashews get into these bars? Who is even making these bars?   What about all the Julian Bakery Moldy Paleo Bars?  Why won’t Heath Squier refund unhappy peoples money? Has the Julian Bakery paid the over $241,000. they owe FedEx? Why would Paleo Magazine even consider testing an advertiser’s product? Do they expect a different outcome? Is it to potentially save the advertising money?

Inquiring minds want to know and if anything, I do have an inquiring mind.

The Low Carb WiO Diet Scam

The Low Carb WiO Diet Scam is located in West Jordan, Utah and is now the newest and perhaps the worst low carb scam I have encountered to date…and…this is a dandy folks.  WiO Diet stands for Weight Is Over your last Diet pretty tricky huh?  The brains behind this low carb Wio diet scam company?  Jason B. Whitney & Nirav Dhruv and this is charlatanism & quackery at its best.

Nope, I was wrong. There is now another much newer, much larger than every bread scam as of the first of this year and it is the Franz Keto Bread Scam. You have to read it to believe it and for the first time I have actually published my Element Laboratory Reports. Clear case of whats termed Economic Food Fraud or mislabeling  a product for economic gains.

WiO Diet is not as large as the JULIAN BAKERY but make no mistake, they are at least as egregious.  This company is aggressively targeting diabetics and the lowcarb community along the East Coast and is now attempting to move west.  It is my opinion they targeted the East Coast first because of the population concentration in New York and all along the Eastern Seaboard.  They have even been so bold as to compare their products to some legitimate lowcarb breads and muffins.  Thin Slim pizza & muffins, Mama Lupes tortillas (I question these too), Godiva chocolates, & The Great Low Carb Bread Company. Click on the chart to the left twice and you can easily see the comparisons. It’s spelled out perfectly saying “apples-to-apples” with WiO products highlighted in green.  Speaking of apples look at their apple pie label below. 6g carbohydrate and 13g fiber.  Um…not possible.

I am making it easy for you to look at the products as well as their labels.  As you look at each label note the placement of “Net Carbohydrate”.  This listing in a nutritional label is totally illegal.  Many of the labels make absolutely no sense. I would strongly advise you not eat any of these products.  Of the pictures and labels shown I have had two products (the White Flour & Rolls) laboratory tested at Exova and the comparison labels are below.

Julian Bakery Moldy Paleo BarsJulian Bakery Moldy Paleo Bars. They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words so this ought to be a 6,000 word moldy essay. Love the expiration date and I do kinda like the rainbow effect of the different moldy colors.  Click on any picture for an up close and personal view. Update that to a 7,000 word moldy essay, no  9,000 words…Ack I’ve lost count but you can see lots more below.  Make that a 9,000 word moldy essay.  If this keeps up maybe we can make a cocktail table picture book. Julian Bakery Is Falsely Labeling Their New Paleo Protein Bars-They Are…Not So Tasty…And…They Are Moldy Too

Moldy Chocolate Mint BarI have no idea how the Julian Bakery & Heath Squier come up with the information they put into a Nutritional Facts Label but there are only about four ways to come up with the figures.

Notice the expiration date.

  • 1.)  Heath Squier has no idea how to read a lab report and translate that to a label.
  • 2.)  He makes a wild guess.
  • 3.)  He never really had these products tested.
  • 4.)  He simply lies.

Isomalto-Oligosaccharides In Nutrition Bars: Not So Guilt-Free

This is now the 6th Julian Bakery product I have had laboratory tested and not one of them has ever been remotely correct.  There are so many things wrong with these products I hardly know where to begin. As you look at the pictures and graph below you will notice:

As a diabetic I DO NOT inject insulin and I DO NOT take any diabetic drugs which in my opinion makes me a perfect guinea pig to test any supposed low carb product.

After looking at my results does this remotely look like 2g Net Carbs?  Well not to me it doesn’t.  My observation:  These bars taste absolutely horrible.  It took me 17 minutes to gag it down, another 15 minutes to get it out of my teeth and my blood glucose level skyrocketed.

Let alone the diabetic and low carb communities who are being poisoned once again by the Julian Bakery, is the Paleo community now also being duped?  These two images below are the centerfold of the new Paleo Magazine.  On the right Heath Squier says:  “Ah heck, they’re just good for you and delicious too”.  Well I say:  Ah heck, they are definitely NOT good for you, they are definitely NOT delicious,  and could actually be POISONOUS for many of you. See the moldy pictures below.

On the Julian Bakery website this is what they are calling Lab Results.  We know that a Nutritional Facts Label in no way resembles any laboratory tested analysis results. It is simply a Nutritional Facts Label from some testing company in Canada.  And why all of a sudden is Heath Squier using a testing lab in Canada?  Yes, I verified it, they did have the bars tested in Canada.  Anyone wishing to look at a nutritional lab report can (Click Here) and this is why I do not put mine up.  Not many people can make heads nor tails of them.  The good news:  The FDA knows exactly how to read one.

On the left is the generated Exova Laboratory Nutritional Label and as you can see it bears no resemblance to what the Julian Bakery says on the right.

I sent Cain Corticott at Paleo Magazine samples of the Paleo Protein Bars and in conjunction, I have filed (another) formal FDA complaint with a small part of the text reading:

  • The Julian Bakery stated Calorie count is 153% lower than Exova testing (170 vs 260)
  • The Julian Bakery stated Fat is 260% lower than Exova testing (5g vs 13g)
  • The Julian Bakery stated Net Carbohydrate is 600% lower than Exova testing (2g vs 12g)
  • The Julian Bakery stated Fiber is 371% higher than Exova testing (26g vs 7g)

Another good question may be asked:  Where does this put Qwest Bars as they are made with nearly identical ingredients?

Pictures of moldy Paleo Protein Bars are now beginning to show up on the internet.  Yum.

To show the lengths Heath Squier will go, he has once again put his Paleo Protein Bars on Amazon and in 1 day absolutely buried all the negative Reviews. On February 25th  22 people posted 5 star Reviews. They are FAKE, FAKE, FAKE, and the English; is absolutely atrocious.  This was the link but it has now been broken. http://www.amazon.com/Paleo-Protein-Carbs-Glazed-Donut/product reviews/B00RDL7NTU/ref=cm_cr_pr_top_helpful?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=byRankDescending A disgusting practice and Amazon?…allows it. Why? Because Julian Bakery sells all their crappy Paleo products thru them and Amazon makes $$$$$.

These are the Deleted Amazon Reviews and some are actually pretty funny. You won’t find them anywhere else as Heath is unable to control what people say (other than on his own websites) but he did the next best thing and had many of them deleted.

I am so sorry but I had to close the Comments below. Heath Squier was spamming it. I allowed him to put up his first Comment and in my reply, which is still visible, I said it was going to be his only one. The first thing he did was add to his original and then continued adding the same Comment over and over about every 15 minutes. They appeared to be coming from some robot machine. As I deleted them another would come in. As well he should be, it is my belief Heath Squier is quite worried about this Post.
Heath Squier has some rather girlie tendencies and one of them is he believes he always deserves the last word.  Well this is my blog, not his, and I have no intention of allowing him to spew his lies, venom and vitriol here so…Man Up Heath.
In the end it will be the FDA who determines whether these bars are what they say they are. Not Gary Collins and certainly not Heath Squier.

Meanwhile, Loren Cordain & The Paleo Diet Recommend Julian Bakery-Scroll to the bottom past D’Artagnan Meat which are true paleo foods.

Since Heath Squier continually began spamming the Comments below I had to stop allowing them but since he can’t stop them on Amazon here are a few recent choice ones:

Whey Low Sugar Scam

Whey Low Sugar ScamI have gotten a lot of people coming to my website who google Whey Low Sugar Scam.  Upon closer inspection this product, as far as I can tell, is nearly identical to white table sugar. It has 4g carbs per teaspoon and table sugar has 4.2g carbs per teaspoon with a difference of .2g per teaspoon which seems to me a ridiculously microscopic difference.
They advertise it as sugar made healthy (see picture) and as we know sugar is sugar is sugar, and sugar is anything but healthy.  The funny (pathetic) thing it is all spelled out on their website.

Beware The New Truvia Brown Sugar Blend

Beware The New Truvia Brown Sugar BlendBeware The New Truvia Brown Sugar Blend and why it is a very bad investment. Many diabetics & lowcarbers have been using Truvia® for years and the maker of this product (Cargill) realizes what brand identification & brand loyalty is and they are now playing on this. The original Truvia® is composed of erythritol (a sugar alcohol), stevia leaf extract, and ‘natural flavors’ whatever that is. (Be sure to read at the bottom regarding the two Truvia® lawsuits) The new Truvia® Brown Sugar Blend is a completely different animal consisting of erythritol, sugar, molasses, and stevia leaf extract. See any differences in the ingredients?

Please read:  Sugar Alcohols (Polyols) And Why I Don’t Use Them

Beware The New Truvia Brown Sugar BlendSupposedly 1g net carb for ½ t. This ought to tell you something. There are 48 t in one cup which means if you are subtracting all the erythritol sugar alcohols there are 96g net carbs. Now we know that a sugar alcohol count over 5g should be divided in half and then subtracted from the stated carb count so in the case of the new Truvia® Brown Sugar Blend the real net carbs per cup would be 144g. I am here to tell you that is a lot of carb grams. If you compare that to one cup of real sugar at 200g carbs per cup the difference is only 66g and not much in the scope of things. Many recipes call for 1½-2 cups of sugar so you are now at a whopping 288g carb and that is only your sweetener. Did you ever wonder why low-no carb sugar sweeteners don’t list the carb count much above ½ t-1 T ? It is because anything above, the numbers begin to change. They are relying on you to do the multiplication, not taking into account the fact you need to use so much more of it in a recipe.

I originally made a mistake on Twitter saying there were 192g carbs per cup and I have now rectified it here as it is “only 144g carbs per cup”. Some fellow on Twitter got bent out of shape by not understanding the deceptive ploys being used to sell this “new” product. His words “So (1) if it’s a new product, (2) not marketed as low carb or approp [sic] for diabetics, & (3) clearly labeled, how is it a scam”? I tweeted back “Clearly you don’t get it and it can’t be explained with 140 characters. Not a scam and/but preying on brand loyalty. Disgusting”. At that point he opted out of the discussion as I guess he didn’t like my answer.  My thanks to this man as it prompted this post (rant).

As I said above, most people who may have used Truvia®” in the past with no repercussions, may now blindly use this very high carby new product. Will diabetics test their blood sugar levels?  Maybe & maybe not but the product will be doing harm never-the-less.

Food brand loyalties starts early at about age two-four as kids begin staring at the TV. Companies know this now and they spend billions targeting children who…influence their parents. It’s called “Pester Power”. I love the term and growing up in the 50’s I also tried and probably successfully used it on my parents.

Now, as adults, we are being bombarded with advertising for foods. One ad after another always pounding, pounding, and yes…more pounding-from cradle to grave. You are not advertised to for real food-only for crappy processed foods. Can’t get advertised to for a steak, green beans, cauliflower, or zucchini because there is no money in it.

OK, OK, I have ranted enough and I hope you get some of it. The bottom line is of course eat REAL foods and I am not alone on this. There are many, many people advocating eating REAL FOOD.

Two class action lawsuits involving Cargill and their use of the term “natural” in regards to Truvia were settled October 27th, 2014. The two lawsuits – known as Denise Howerton, et al., v. Cargill, Inc. and Molly Martin and Lauren Barry v. Cargill, Inc. – challenge the labeling and marketing of Cargill’s Truvia Natural Sweetener products.

Do you believe Coca-Cola & Cargill are walking hand in hand with your health at heart? I seriously doubt it.

Beware Of TruviaEthical?-NO  Principled?-NO  Moral?-NO  Legal?-Sadly Yes

And drugs? Don’t even get me started. There are 80 drug commercials an hour 24/7 on TV and hey, Hollywood is also in on that cash cow. Bet you can name a few of em too.

Julian Bakery Owners Mr. & Mrs. Narcissistic

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings but behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Narcissism:  The pursuit of gratification.  The pictures below are two of Paleo Magazine’s back cover advertisements for the Julian Bakery.  Really, is this advertising or some kind of soft porn?

Images used under the fair use law and are not to be construed as promoting Paleo Magazine, Julian Bakery or their employees.  I do not make any money promoting anything on this website and besides, these two people are in the business of promoting themselves and their company and I am just trying to help them along.

I wrote this Post two weeks and  and since Jimmy Moore came out with a terrific read today October 1st, 2014 http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/paleo-magazine-continues-taking-advertising-from-company-under-fda-scrutiny/23627 and I’ve waited long enough, I am posting it today-so here goes.

More Evidence Of Heath Squier’s Pathological Lying

More Evidence Of Heath Squier's Pathological LyingIt seems to me that Heath Squier, owner and speaking for the Julian Bakery, is unable to tell the truth yet again.  Below is a screen shot of Heath answering the question on Amazon: How big are the wraps? Heath’s answer:  8”x8”.

Clearly from the picture I took they are 7”x7”. OK that’s settled: The Wraps are only 7”x7”.

More Evidence Of Heath Squier's Pathological LyingMore Evidence Of Heath Squier's Pathological LyingClearly and to this day they are lying about the size of their Paleo Wraps.  Package says:  “New And Improved” and “Now Larger, Holds More Filling”.  If you look closely at the picture you can see a ghostly muddy brown round tortilla like product and in now way is it larger let alone new and improved.  The picture to the right was sent to me by an extremely disgruntled Julian Bakery customer who wanted his money returned.  (with help it finally was).

Click on any screenshot for a large very clear view of what I am describing.

Lie #1  On Amazon Jan. 26, 2014 Bobbie Lazar asks:  how big are the wraps?
Answer: Jan 26, 2014 by Julian Bakery:  8″x8″ and in this recent video (September 25th at minute 1:07 Heath boldly announces the wraps are 8″ in “diameter”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKnulz-k4qM&feature=youtu.be&a  Now I always thought a diameter was found in a circle and squares have “diagonals” but hey what do I know?  At any rate, Heath is lying through his teeth.

How Big

Lie #2 These screen shots are from the Julian Bakery website. A customer has asked the question: “Isn’t Xanthan Gum derived from corn?” http://www.julianbakery.com/paleo-product/paleo-pizza-crust-mix-gluten-free-12-oz/  Heath very glibly answers: “Xanthum [sic] can be derived from fruit also and that is the type we use”.  If I am wrong then I would ask to Heath to please send me some of his “fruit derived” Xanthan Gum because as I know it, Xanthan is not made from any “fruit”.

UPDATE October 10th: After someone on Twitter questioned that Julian Bakery had mislabeled their breads and wraps they changed their website wording to read: “Xanthan Gum (Made From The Fermentation Of Non-GMO Vegetables) (Corn Free)”. So now Heath says the xanthan gum has changed from being made from fruit to now being made from vegetables?  Another lie caught and another lie to cover the first. Come on Heath, get your lies lined up.

Lie #3  Number of Twitter Followers Heath would like you to believe he has on any of his 21 Twitter Accounts.  As you can plainly see he purchases his Followers from all over the world.  It does not take much looking to find Followers from Russia, Turkey, China, Mexico…and…you get the idea very quickly.  Heath has purchased well over half a million Twitter Followers.  Below, the one to the right is my favorite.  Heath’s newest Twitter Account, @AllPaleo (22nd and still counting,) with 3 Tweets in 2 days has 7,720 Followers. One day later Follower count is 9,983.  While I was looking for the screen shots the counts changed before my eyes.  Looks like a whole lot of rotten eggs to me.

And while I’m ranting how in the hell does Heath Squier “register” the word “Paleo®”?  Check it out in the right screenshot in the upper left-hand corner.  This can’t be serious.

Lie #4  Number of Views on any of his hundreds of YouTube videos.  How I ever got this is anyones guess, but again, you can plainly see how it works and the ungodly amount of money Heath Squier spends to make the Julian Bakery, himself, and his new collaboration with Gary Collins on their Primal Show network look far better than they really are.  This screenshot is from The Primal Show and to date, with 21 posted videos in about a month and a half, they have managed to amass nearly 1,000,000 Views.  You may ask: How do you know this?  Answer:  Because from the day this two clowns launched The Primal Show I have, on a daily basis, monitored and tracked the Views on each video.  How many Views are real?  My guess is not many.  Example: The Loren Cordain interview jumps about 10,000 Views from morning to morning with almost no actual viewing during the day.

Another Julian Bakery FDA Warning Letter

Julian Bakery FDA Warning Letter

For five years I have been talking about the Julian Bakery and their falsely labeled breads and now the FDA has stepped in…again.  This time with a warning letter  regarding…you guessed it…more falsely labeled breads. Below was their first 2010 recall.

Another Julian Bakery FDA Warning LetterAt my own expense, I had five JULIAN BAKERY breads tested through Exova Laboratories and all five were many more times the stated carbohydrate count with far less fiber & protein.  They eventually got rid of all 21 of their breads only to come up with…even more falsely labeled breads.  They have four Paleo breads and two Carb Zero breads and they are under suspect according to the FDA.

Questions:  How is it the that even with the Julian Bakery’s “independent lab results” they seem unable to make a label without falsifying it?  How do they understate calories by 152%-165%?  What is wrong with this picture?  Is it incompetence?…No, I don’t think so.  I believe Heath Squier and his JULIAN BAKERY believe they can literally get away with their pathological lying.

365 YogurtI also find it quite interesting that JULIAN BAKERY follows one day behind Whole Foods Market being sued for falsely labeling their own in-house brand 365 Everyday Value Plain Greek Yogurt which contains a sugar content nearly six times (testing showed 11.4g sugar) the amount stated on the product’s nutritional label.  I tried my darnedest to get Whole Foods to stop their support of Julian Bakery…but to no avail.  6 Letters To Whole Foods They continue selling Julian Bakery products as well as their own yogurt to this day and it seems birds of a feather may really flock together.

And there you have it.  Let’s hope the JULIAN BAKERY Paleo Breads are all but toast.

Whole Foods Sued For Falsely Labeling Their Own 365 Brand

For the second time Whole Foods Market has been caught selling falsely labeled products after notification but this time, it is one of their own brands. http://bit.ly/1t4L15M  Whole Foods knowingly sold it’s 365 Everyday Value Plain Greek Yogurt which contains a sugar content nearly six times (testing showed 11.4g sugar) the amount stated on the product’s nutritional label and there have been lawsuits filed in several states. “Whole Foods has it produced, advertises it & makes the label.”  I personally believe it is time for Whole Foods to stop poisoning diabetics.  First they sold Julian Bakery’s falsely labeled low carb breads and now their own private label products.  Where does it stop?

Whole Foods Excuse:  “The lab reports are wrong. This product was tested by a reputable third party lab using FDA-approved testing methodology to determine the labeling. We recognize that Consumer Reports is a trusted publication and are looking into why their test results differ from ours.”  Are you kidding me?  Really? Then let’s look at the two lab reports side-by-side cause you know what?-I’ll believe the Consumer Reports lab tests and it’s my best guess Whole Foods never had lab tests done.

UPDATE:  August 26th, 2014 It didn’t take long for a lawsuit to be filed and you can read it here:  https://www.truthinadvertising.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Jackson-v.-Whole-Foods-complaint-.pdf

Here is a little excerpt ditty from the lawsuit:  Whole Foods Market’s website brags to consumers about how thoroughly Whole Foods Market checks the accuracy of the labels of its store brands, telling consumers: “Our Private Label registered dietician reviews each nutrition label for accuracy and completeness before the label is printed. All attempts are made to review nutrition labels on a regular basis to ensure accuracy”.

Unless this statement on Defendant’s website is false, then Whole Foods Market was fully aware of the contents of its store brand plain Greek yogurt and of the fact that the yogurt’s actual sugar content was dramatically higher than what is stated on the label.

Paying for Followers, Likes, Views, & Reviews @JulianBakery, @PaleoWrap, @PaleoInc, and @theprimalshow gives the unsuspecting consumer a false sense of legitimacy and this is clearly an effort to cheat the public.

Thus far they have produced three videos (now 4) mostly in service to selling Julian Bakery’s Paleo products. Now, if you want to buy these ill gotten products being shilled by various people then go ahead. Heath Squier has long been what I call the Bernie Madoff of the lowcarb scam artists JulianBakery and why Gary continues to sully himself associating with Heath and hawking his products is beyond me and anyone’s guess.

If you review the @JulianBakery Followers on Twitter please note the huge number of Russian, Chinese, and Middle Easterners  making up their lists of Followers  and considering that this is an American company, it’s hard to believe that 10s of 1,000s of foreign nationals would Follow an American company selling Paleo products. One of the great things about the internet is that people want to believe in its integrity and keep social media as pure as possible. The actions of the @JulianBakery and companies doing similar cheating hurt us all. Below are the Youtube statistics:

If you click on the statistics icon on each of the videos you will see the meteoric rise of views in just 3 days then notice an immediate straight line after I let them know I knew what they were up to. Then click on the daily icon. It looks like the days the stock market crashed in 1929, 1987, and 2008. No comments made-only a couple hundred Like hits and they have not changed much since the second day after launch.

Is it because the JulianBakery‘s reputation has been so trashed and is Heath Squier really this desperate?

Does Paleo Money Trump Paleo Ethics?

Does Baking With Paleo Ingredients Always Adhere To The Paleo Diet?

Loren Cordain Ph.D., is the world’s leading expert on Paleolithic Diets and Founder of The Paleo Movement (taken from his website).

July 17th, 2014 Dr. Cordain tweeted (or perhaps retweeted) a link to an article of the 1st screenshot which he wrote last year (2013).  Today, one day later, my tweeted link http://bit.ly/1mkEtda goes to nowhere as shown in the 2nd screenshot.  Read The Original Article Here

After reading the article I tweeted to my Followers: Hey @JulianBakery I think Loren Cordain @ThePaleoDiet is talking about you http://bit.ly/1mkEtda  #Paleo #Bread #Coconut #Almond

I also tweeted Hey @JulianBakery I think @ThePaleoDiet is talking about you http://bit.ly/1mkEtda  @PaleoWrap @HeathSquier @PaleoInc @PaleoBread

Why, from literally one day to the next, was Loren Cordain not willing to stand by what he wrote a year ago? There must have been a reason for him to tweet the article in the first place and maybe, he forgot that he might also shoot himself in the (money) foot.

I don’t know the relationship between Loren Cordain & Heath Squier of the JULIAN BAKERY  and I do know that Heath Squier has pulled dangerous and unethical stunts including falsely labeling breads and patent infringement. I think the answer may lie in the 3rd screenshot. Dr. Cordain seems to be endorsing many of the Julian Bakery Paleo Products from his website. I find it interesting that Dr. Cordain probably makes money from any sale Julian Bakery makes that link from his site, and yet if you look at the site’s many Paleo Recipes there is not even one Julian Bakery product featured. Why would Dr. Cordain promote the products and not have recipes using those same items? It is obvious the website is up to date in that the JULIAN BAKERY ’s new Turmeric Wraps & Coconut Flakes cereal are featured.

I would absolutely welcome Dr. Cordain’s explanation for this sudden turn around and if I am wrong-I will apologize.  If the archived website goes down as well…we will have our answer.

To my knowledge Julian Bakery does not even actually “make” any of the products shown below. Do these really look like the products of any bakery you know ? As I know it, a bakery “bakes” and produces things.  JULIAN BAKERY  is now mostly (re)-selling processed foods and are processed foods really Paleo?

Caveat:  Screenshots are for educational purposes only and I receive zero compensation on this site for any product endorsement.

10/14/13 My Chobani Experiment Apples To Apples

My Chobani Experiment: Apples To ApplesHamdi Ulukaya, the CEO, founder, and president of Chobani says it is the straining of the yogurt that makes the difference. Really? Straining for 8-9 minutes? In a centrifuge? Are you kidding me? Choban is NOT Greek yogurt by any stretch of the imagination. Ulukaya also says the secret of his success is simplicity. “We want to make yogurt the way it was meant to be,” he says. His yogurt, he says, “is exactly the same as what his mother made by hand back home in Turkey”. Me? I’m not thinking so. Ole Hamdi has gotten wealthy beyond belief lying about his “Greek” Yogurt.

CMC is used in food science as a viscosity modifier or thickener, and to stabilize emulsions in various products including ice cream. As a food additive, it has E number E466. It is also a constituent of many non-food products, such as personal lubricants, toothpaste, laxatives, diet pills, water-based paints, detergents, textile sizing, and various paper products. It is used primarily because it has high viscosity, is nontoxic, and is hypoallergenic (except for those suffering an intolerance to wheat). In laundry detergents, it is used as a soil suspension polymer designed to deposit onto cotton and other cellulosic fabrics, creating a negatively charged barrier to soils in the wash solution. CMC is used as a lubricant in nonvolatile eye drops (artificial tears). Sometimes, methyl cellulose (MC) is used, but its nonpolar methyl groups (-CH3) do not add any solubility or chemical reactivity to the base cellulose.

Dehydrated WaterHow is it possible to have this many ingredients in any one food product?  It kind of surprises me there is no dehydrated water.

What is CARAMELIZED ONION FLAVOR?  They have in parenthesis (sunflower oil and natural flavor) but the last I knew it was slowly cooked onions in a little fat until golden brown and delicious.

Do you know what Blueberry Bits are?  They’re made entirely of sugar, corn cereal, modified food starch, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, artificial flavor, cellulose gum, salt and artificial colors like Blue #2, Red #40, Green #3 and Blue #1 and are in products ranging from cereals, bagels, breads and muffins.  The Fiber One Premium Muffin Mix below?  Click on the thumbnail and take a good look at the front of the box in the upper right corner.  There are no blueberries what-so-ever in the mix and they are calling this premium…wonder what the medium and low level mixes look like. Seriously folks, is this what Americans are eating?

You may rest assured you are eating Cargill ingredients when you are eating these these and many other diet-weight loss products.

The US Government Trifecta-FDA-FTC-USDA

FDA Logo2

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA)

 FDA is responsible for:

Protecting the public health by assuring that foods (except for meat from livestock, poultry and some egg products which are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture) are safe, wholesome, sanitary and properly labeled. Ensuring that human and veterinary drugs, and vaccines and other biological products and medical devices intended for human use are safe and effective.

Assuring cosmetics and dietary supplements are safe and properly labeled.

FTC LogoThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

FTC enforcement priorities include:

Combating deceptive advertising of fraudulent and cure-all claims for dietary supplements and weight loss products.

Monitoring and stopping deceptive Internet marketing practices that develop in response to public health issues.

Monitoring and developing effective enforcement strategies for new advertising techniques and media, such as word-of-mouth marketing.

Monitoring and reporting on the advertising of food to children, including the impact of practices by food companies and the media on childhood obesity.

USDA LogoThe United States Department Of Agriculture (USDA)

 USDA is responsible for:

Overseeing education, production, research, and many other areas relating to food, the environment, and farming. While less than 2% of the United States population is employed in the farming industry, they supply food for the United States as well as other countries around the world. The USDA employs over 100,000 people in more than 7,000 locations worldwide.

The main goals of the United States Department of Agriculture include creating and maintaining a model for food production, environmental concerns, and a safe and healthy food supply. The department strives to keep the industry of American food production competitive around the world, while balancing a concern for natural resources and conservation. Under the agency’s large umbrella, individual areas focus on specific sectors of the nutrition and food production industry.

This is what the FTC should be doing-problem is they don’t do nearly enough of it.

Activia Yogurt

ActiviaThe Claim: That no other yogurts contain Bifidus Regularis is true because the trademarked name cannot be used by another company but what is Bifidus Regularis?  It a specific strain of Bifidobacterium Lactis, a microorganism reputed to help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the human digestive tract. Bifidobacterium Lactis is a very powerful transient probiotic bacteria and Dannon does not have a patent on anything but the name.  Are  ya confused yet?  Don’t be.  It was just another marketing ploy and a crock of crap.

The Truth: Consumers who believe that Activia’s beneficial effects on the body exceed those of other yogurts containing different strains of probiotics or good bacteria may find little scientific evidence to support that belief.

The Conclusion: In December 2010 Dannon agreed to a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission for $21 million dollars based on over-exaggerated claims about Activia’s effects on digestive irregularity and prevention of flu and colds.

Airborne

AirborneThe Claim: Created by a school teacher, this over-the-counter dietary supplement claims to be a preventive cure for the common cold. According to the manufacturer, Airborne can help prevent the flu and colds by warding off bacteria and germs and building up your immune system.

The Truth: There have been no significant studies that support Airborne’s claims. ABC News reported in 2006 that the supplement was tested in only one clinical trial, which was conducted by two people without adequate scientific or medical training.

The Conclusion: The FTC charged Airborne Health with deceptive advertising. The company paid a fine of $30 million to settle the case. The CSPI also slapped the company with a class-action lawsuit to refund $23.3 million to customers.

Nestle BOOST For Kids

Boost Kid EssentialsThe Claim: Nestle claims that this children’s drink helps protect against the flu, strengthens the immune system, and prevents respiratory tract infections, among other things.

The Truth: The health claims were not substantially supported by scientific study, the FTC said.

The Conclusion: The FTC said that Nestle deliberately deceived customers into thinking that Boost can prevent respiratory health problems in kids. In July of this year, Nestle agreed to drop its misleading advertising.

POM Wonderful

The Claim: POM Wonderful pomegranate juice and POMx supplements promote healthy blood vessels, reduce high blood pressure, reduce LDL cholesterol, treat prostate cancer, and alleviate erectile dysfunction.

The Truth: The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) alleged that POM Wonderful violated federal law by making unsubstantiated claims about their products. The FTC said that studies claimed as evidence by POM Wonderful were unreliable or not conducted scientifically.

The Conclusion: It’s still under dispute. The FTC filed a suit on the grounds that POM Wonderful engaged in deceptive advertising. POM Wonderful fired back at the FTC, saying that the accusations were unwarranted. POM argues that their products do not carry the risks associated with pharmaceutical drugs, therefore their products should not be treated as such.

 Gerber Fruit Juice Snacks

Gerber Juice TreatsThe Claim: What irked consumers was not the advertising for this product, but that its packaging was covered with images of fruits.

The Truth: The fruit snacks are actually made from high-fructose corn syrup and sugar.

The Conclusion: The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that Gerber was using deceptive marketing techniques. The court stated that consumers should not be expected to look beyond misleading representations on the front of the box to discover the truth from the ingredient list in small print on the side of the box.

This is what our government is doing to people who would challenge “Big Pharma”

http://www.politicolnews.com/fda-ftc-attack-dr-weil-alternative-medicine-for-swine-flu/

This is a man who has been on the cover of Time Magazine not once-but twice.Dr. Andrew Weil

Dr. Weil 2Dr. Andrew Weil, one of the pioneers of integrating alternative approaches to healing with traditional medicine, adds his two-cents worth on health care reform. His point is that we’ve got to reconfigure our current system from “disease-management” to “health-promotion.” Money quote:

“It’s impossible to make our drug-intensive, technology-centric, and corrupt system affordable. … If we can make the correct diagnosis, the healing can begin. If we can’t, both our personal health and our economy are doomed.”

My Personal Statistics & Plugs For Things I Like…If Anybody Cares

Throughout this site I have emphasized that I do not inject insulin and that I do not take any diabetic drugs so here is what I DO take every day.  I am not advocating that anyone reading here take these, they are just what I have customized for myself.

10,000iu Vitamin D–2,560mg Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Fish Oil–1,500mg Twin Labs Flushing Niacin–1,000 mg Acetyl L-Carnitine–1,000mcg Methlcobalamin–800mg GTF Chromium–200mg Jarrow CoQ10–90 mcg K2 (MK-7) Natto–12.5mg Iodoral Iodine

My doctors have hounded me for years to take statins (see below) and I have basically told them to kiss off.  Number one I wouldn’t take statins on a bet for any reason and number two they elevate blood sugar levels.  Terrific, a diabetic on statins.  I am not the least bit concerned about my cholesterol levels-it is the ratios that count and as you can see, my ratios look pretty good.  Below is from just a couple weeks ago and the graphs are from the last almost 3 years so you can see the trends are lookin’ good.  I wouldn’t have a clue as to why my last A1c went back to up 6.0 except that I tested 2 products that elevated my blood sugar within a month of my test or…not…maybe just wishful thinking.  The letter I got from the doctor’s office after my most recent test results said something to the effect that for my age and whatever I have done to change my lifestyle is working so keep it up…uh, OK Doc.

This is a lagniappe in the wrong place-on the wrong page-Oh Well.

Did you know that Red Rice Yeast in the United States DOES NOT contain statins?  The statin in Red Rice Yeast is identical to lovastatin and in order to protect Big Pharma the FDA banned its use.  The FDA has determined that red yeast rice products that contain more than trace amounts of monacolin K are unapproved new drugs and cannot be sold legally as dietary supplements.  It is the monacolin K that you would be looking for.

Statin DrugsIn 1998, the FDA determined that a red yeast rice product containing a substantial amount of monacolin K was an unapproved new drug, not a dietary supplement. On several occasions since then, the FDA has taken action against companies selling red yeast rice products that contain more than trace amounts of monacolin K, warning them that it is against the law to market these products as dietary supplements.  After all, Big Pharma can’t make any money pushing rice but they sure as hell make money pushing statins.

Red Rice YeastDespite the FDA actions, some red yeast rice products currently on the market in the United States may contain monacolin K. (Some products tested as recently as 2011 have been found to contain it in substantial amounts.) Other products may contain little or none of this component. Consumers have no way of knowing how much monacolin K is present in most red yeast rice products, and therefore have no way of knowing whether a particular product is safe, effective, or legal. The labels on these products usually state only the amount of red yeast rice that they contain, not the amounts of monacolin K or other monacolins.

In any case, it seems that the dog may be chasing its own tail.  You have no way of knowing what you are taking when you take any particular Red Rice Yeast product and if it does have more than traces of monacolin K it is illegal and…it is still a statin with all the attending problems i.e. depletion of COQ10, blood sugar elevation, muscle pains, liver and kidney problems etc.

I totally agree with Dr. Mercola and for further reading about statin drugs please see http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/20/the-truth-about-statin-drugs-revealed.asp

Porcini Powder 4I could not live without this.  I use at most 1-1½ teaspoons in any given recipe and it has more flavor-bang for your buck than anything else I can think of.  I guarantee it will change your foodie life.

PISTOL RIVER MUSHROOMS right here in Oregon are the real deal and I have been using this brand for many years.  The price is a scant 1.69oz. (26.95 when you buy a l pound canister) and is totally worth every penny. The mushrooms are grade A and imported from Italy. Pistol River Porcini Mushrooms or Pistol River Porcini Dust

Premium Chicken BaseThe absolute best bases for everything under the sun.  I could not live without R L Schreiber Premium Chicken Base.  I only know about them because of my association with the food industry.  If you actually end up ordering any of them you will need to call in the order.  They are less expensive than shown on the website and though I have been using these for years, I don’t think their website even works.  Best to order the 2.5 lb sizes which fits well in your fridge.  R.L. Schreiber  Ask for Irene Ames.  You will see this used many times in my recipes.

A PLUG FOR MY FAVORITE TEA  This is a plug for Market Spice Cinnamon Orange Tea that I have been drinking since 1987 from my days living in Telluride, Colorado.  A friend gave me a cup of this one day and I swear I could not believe it did not any have sugar in it.  For all the world, you would think it was filled with sugar.  This is the link to read about and order it. http://www.marketspice.com/store/products/marketspice-cinnamon-orange-tea-16oz-package  I guarantee that this will become a favorite.  It is available in 4oz, 8oz, and 16oz, loose leaf as well as individual bags.  It is also available through Amazon and this is a link to read the reviews. http://www.amazon.com/MarketSpice-00204010-Tea-1-Bag/product-reviews/B0007XPS98/ref=sr_1_1_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1   If you are not into caffeine then this is not the tea for you-it does have caffeine and as the company says, it needs to be stored in a glass jar once one of the larger bags has been opened.  I buy four 16oz. bags (like the picture) at a time and have a dedicated ½ gallon glass jar to keep it in.  I also have a dedicated (used to be) stainless pan that I use to brew it in.  Buying it loose leaf allows you to determine your own flavor and strength.  Summer or Winter Iced or Hot -I think it is the best.

Pork PelletsFried Pork Skins…my diabetic popcorn.  I fry my own pellets in my own rendered pork fat and I buy 8 lbs. at a time from Willies Pork Rind Pellets To order you need to call 1-217-623-4340 or 1-217-725-6209

Byrd Mill Peanut FlourByrd Mill Peanut Flour This is very good in desserts and also as a breading for fried chicken and no, it does not make your food taste peanutty. Available at Netrition

Nevada MannaNevada Manna Chocolate Chips  I think most people use these as chocolate chips which is not what I do.  I use them for making ganache so I don’t care if they come in one big melted mess.  I just shave what I want and leave the rest alone. Since most of you want chips, order during cool weather. Sadly these are no longer available.

EZ-SweetzEZ-Sweetz  After mountains of reading it is my opinion that Splenda (Sucralose) is perfectly safe to use in any amount and for any length of time.  It is the largest companies with their own vested interests in their own zero carb products and/or the sugar producers and/or the corn growers that have bad mouthed Splenda from here to kingdom come and if you think Big Agra and the whole of the sugar industry is going down without a fight you would be wrong.  There are billions of dollars at stake and these companies have every reason to make you think that Sucralose is bad for you.  Cargill would be a great example of this.  They own the Truvia brand which competes with Splenda.  And of all companies Monsanto owned Aspartame/Nutrasweet and Equal until they sold it.  Personally, I use liquid Splenda because Splenda Granules has maltodextrin in it which does have carbs.  Available at Netrition

This is an article I would urge you to read regarding the safety of Sucralose.  http://www.splendatruth.com/news?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Branded+-+Safety&utm_term=is%2520splenda%2520toxic&utm_content=CGTr9uPP|pcrid|2873816600|pkw|is%2520splenda%2520toxic|pmt|

And this from Dr. Michael Eades http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/sugar-and-sweeteners/splenda-misinformation/

Mt Olive Bread & Butter Mt Olive Sweet Relish Mt Olive If you have not tried these all I can say is they are great.  I have tried other low carb bread and butter pickles and they don’t hold a candle to these products. Available at Netrition

Burzynski The Movie*****This will set you on your ear.  It is, by far, the best documentary I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of terrific documentaries) and if you don’t think much of the FDA and Big Pharma you will think even less of them after seeing this.  It is my belief if you were a fan of David Kessler…you won’t like him much either. The reviews on Amazon are virtually all 5 stars. You can see it on Youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBUGVkmmwbk or if you have Netflix you could see if they have it.  There must be a lot of people who think the same thing I do because this video has been watched over 385,000 times and who knows how many 100’s of thousands watched it on the Documentary Channel which is where I saw it for the first time.  There is now a second documentary just released on July,1 2013.

Cargill

Cargilll Logo

Did you know that we diabetics and low carbers have a nickname dubbed by Cargill?  Well, we do, we are called the Savvy “Natural Splendid” Consumers.  Cargill says “While convenience and taste are important to all consumers, Naturally Splendids are more likely to prioritize health benefits over taste and convenience”.   Beware, we are a 39% target (by far the largest of the four groups) in the sights of Cargill, and probably other companies as well.

This explains the four “target groups” (see Consumer Attitudes) regarding sugar preferences and again, not long but quite insightful.

https://web.archive.org/web/20130814195505/http://www.nutraceuticalmag.com/the-battle-against-obesity/  Cargill actually has the audacity to talk about “Ethical Ingredients” Are you kidding me? Cargill and ethical anything seems to me as oxymoronic as it gets.  Get real!

Alas, we are “targeted” yet again…but…I kind of like the name “Natural Splendid” and what it stands for.  I just don’t like the targeting aspect of it.

And here is Cargill targeting children http://web.archive.org/web/20130707001433/http://childhood-nutrition.com/

Chances are if you eat anything other than a few raw ingredients you buy at the grocery store or you local farmers markets you are eating something containing a product produced by Cargill and really you aren’t even assured of that.  Products like beef, turkey, pork, salt, oils or sweeteners are just a few.  Their ingredients are in your pharmaceuticals, your personal care products and they even feed the whole of the livestock industry.  This is the stuff listed under Chemical Industry and it is all foodstuffs we eat.  http://web.archive.org/web/20130828211455/http://www.cargill.com/products/industrial/chemical/index.jsp

If you (and I) think we are not eating this crap we are wrong.  Whole Foods Market?…full, full, full of it.  The only way I can think that anyone can escape this stuff is living in a commune and growing everything yourself which is a pretty impossible task.

Cargill is not listed on the Fortune 500 because…it is privately held and if it were listed it would rank about 17th or 18thCargill is by far the largest privately held company in the USSo who does own Cargill? The Cargill family, of course. The understandably secretive Cargills own 90% of the conglomerate, and no, they haven’t disclosed plans to sell anytime soon.

Turning Wheat into BreadBread & Wheat

While the title of America’s largest public company has changed over the last couple of decades, from GeneralMotors to Microsoft to ExxonMobil, the most valuable private American company has enjoyed its status largely unchallenged. Cargill is a $27 billion company that you perhaps may have only scant familiarity with, yet have almost certainly patronized. The Minnesota multi-national is responsible for a staggering one-quarter of all the grain exports from the United States.

I am of the belief that the closer you live to, and buy your food from, the better for you your food will be.

I’m thinking this stuff is not meant for the average guys eyes and this is probably only the tip of Cargill’s iceberg.  Holy Cow Batman!

Below is only one state and Cargill is all over this exhibition map.

Lagniappes

What on earth are lagniappes? and what on earth is a Food Lagniappe?

LagniappesMerriam Webster Definitionis a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of purchase and more broadly something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure. The term is found in use in Southern Louisiana and Mississippi and is a Cajun French or Louisiana Creole French term.  It is the equivalent of the thirteenth roll in a “baker’s dozen”.

I would like to thank you for coming to my website and I hope you found ‘some food for thought’ and at least a little information.  I have certainly had a good time doing it.

Educate YourselfFood For Thought:  If you are unable to find/buy an item anywhere but the internet be very wary.  Many of these internet sellers also market products through Amazon which tends to make a product look more legitimate-but be very wary.

Educate Yourself.  Education is knowledge and knowledge is power.

How to Correctly Calculate Sugar Alcohols:

The effects that sugar alcohols have on your blood glucose can vary so it is difficult to know how they will affect your blood glucose levels every time. Because there is less effect from sugar alcohols than either sugar or starch, you can use the following tips to estimate how much carbohydrate from a serving to count in your meal plan for foods that contain more than 5 grams sugar alcohols.

Example:

Portion: 1 bar
Total carbohydrate 15 grams, with 6 grams of sugar alcohol
One bar counts as 12 grams carbohydrate (15 – 3 = 12)

Sugar Alcohols

Erythritol, Isomalt, Lactitol, Maltitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Xylitol, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysates

What to say about sugar alcohols-best to stay away from them as much as possible as they can cause all kinds of gastric distress accompanied by pain and suffering.  Maltitol in any form is absolutely the worst and if there is a best it might by erythritol & xylitol.  About the most I can say about Sugar Alcohols is that they do not promote tooth decay.  I personally use Liquid Splenda, (EZ-Sweetz-zero carbs in any amount used) Just Like Sugar Table Top, Just Like Sugar Baking,  and Just Like Sugar Brown, all of which I order from www.netrition.com .  The Just Like Sugar line of products is basically pure inulin with brain damage carbs and equally brain damage fiber.  Each gram of carb is offset by each attending gram of fiber.  We all have our own preferences and these just happen to be mine.  One of the things I have found over the last almost three years is that my tolerance for sweet stuff is not that great.  Most everything tastes too sweet to me.  My husband recently bought some Diet Rite cola sweetened with Splenda.  I took one sip of it and it tasted like sweetness overload to me.  I am not sure but perhaps it is a function of Diet Rite attempting to match the disgusting sweetness of Coke or Pepsi.

Splenda Low Carbing

Try To Learn To Cook if you don’t know how.  Try finding a free online (low carb) cooking class.  If you can follow simple instructions try some of the easier recipes in the Low Carbing Among Friends and Jennifer Eloff cook books.  There are a ton of terrific recipes that will not put any tons on you. Seriously don’t these look scrumptious?  The book cover photos always lure you in with desserts but inside are some really terrific recipes…even for a novice.   I have not done much research on this because I don’t need it but if you do, the research can be fun, fun, fun.  My first husband used to accuse me of only wanting to do the fun things and my secret?: Make everything you do fun.  Easy peezy japanesy.

Baking is science & chemistry and cooking is art & creativity and there is a vast difference.  You don’t want to mess much with science & chemistry…but art?…creativity?…ahh…now there is something most of us can wrap ourselves with and…Katie bar the door.

This is one of my favorite gummment terms:  GRAS and it means Generally Recognized (Regarded) As Safe.  Boy, in my book that takes care of a wide swath of stuff.  If I had my choice (and I do) I would choose a salad, broccoli, cauliflower, or any number of things over Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysates-Yuck.

FOIA-Freedom Of Information Act.  This can be useful if you have made a formal government (in my case, FDA) complaint to find out what is (has) happening with your complaint.  At this point I have not had to use it because as time passed I actually watched the results of my Julian Bakery FDA complaints via the internet.  FOIA Instructions  The charges are nominal and they will send you a bill.

How to File an FDA complaint.  This is pretty easy once you know the steps to take.  Most people send information to some FDA office in Washington, DC and it is my best guess it goes into the garbage.

You need to write a comprehensive, concise letter (several of mine, in the beginning were anything but) and then your letter and any supporting evidence is sent to your local FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator.  Easiest is e-mail. (See PDF of all FDA toll-free phone numbers).  Consumer Complaint Coordinators  Call the office in your state to get the name and e-mail address of your coordinator.  (I have to say my FDA coordinator is absolutely terrific).  Once the complaint has been made you are assigned a complaint number and this number is what you use to obtain any documents you may wish to see under the FOIA.  Do not contact your coordinator again as they are unable to give you any update information-this is what the FOIA is for. Basically then, it is a matter of time.  As the saying goes, the wheels of government turn exceedingly slow and exceedingly fine.  Be patient…like 4-5 months patient.  Certainly you can monitor the company you have complained against which is what I have done.  As I said, I watched Julian Bakery crumble and almost disintegrate before my eyes via the internet.  This is a list of Better Business Bureau complaints during the Julian Bakery meltdown with the FDA.  The BBB’s rating for Julian Bakery is now a D+. Complaints Filed With The BBB Update October 12th, 2013: Julian Bakery has now been downgraded to an F by the BBB.

Anyone who ever said that eating low carb is expensive may not be telling the whole truth.  It is expensive…in the short run… and will probably save you countless healthcare dollars in the long run.  I believe for me, living with diabetes and living low carb, that I am healthier at 67 than I was at 50 or 55.  I consider myself very lucky and try to count my blessings every day.  I live in a very large metropolitan area where many good grocery stores and restaurants vie for your every food dollar and where just about everything is available, if not in a great grocery then at specialty markets and butcher shops.  There are more Asian markets here than you can shake a stick at.  For those of you living in the thousands of smaller towns and villages between the East and West coasts, I know it can be more difficult.  My only advice is to educate yourself and pick the very best and healthiest foods you can and remember, you can always order from www.netrition.com They only charge $6.99 for shipping anywhere in the country no matter how much or how little it weights.  I have received orders that weighted 25-30 lbs. and yep, the shipping was a measly $4.95.  Shipping has now gone to $6.99 but in the world of the internet it is still a super bargain and over $99. the shipping is FREE.

I didn’t exactly tell the truth in the title of this post.  Below are some foodie books but not really in any traditional foodie sense and for this website I would change the quote in the picture below to:  “If you think organic food is expensive have you tried pricing diabetes lately”?

Joel Salatin“When faith in our freedom gives way to fear of our freedom, silencing the minority view becomes the operative protocol.”― Joel Salatin, Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal: War Stories from the Local Food Front

What to say about Joel Salatin.  While I have said elsewhere that Alton Brown is my food hero, Joel Salatin is my all time, all around capitalized HERO.  I can’t think of anything he has said or written that I could much disagree with and/but…I have not read everything-maybe there is something somewhere.  Just so you know, Joel Salatin is that crazy Virginia farmer featured in Michael Pollans book The Omnivores Dilemma and the documentary Food Inc.

Don’t be afraid to stick out and stick up for what you believe in.  If you have never heard the name Joel Salatin now that you have, you may begin seeing his name pop up from time to time.  I even Google Alert him.

Below are eight of the books Joel Salatin has written and most of the titles show his thinking may not be anywhere near what most of us call conventional but to me he makes total sense.  You may visit him at http://www.polyfacefarms.com/  and know this:  Joel Salatin knows what it is to be free and he lives his freedom every day.  Joel is the epitome of the word courageous, Joel is defiant and Joel is a dying breed.

Nationally, the latest agricultural census figures show the fastest growing group of farmers and ranchers are those over age 65.

The USDA is beginning work on its 2012 census, and Merrigan is afraid the average age will be even higher when the data is compiled.  This was 2 years ago.

What do all these colleges have in common?  Texas A&M, Michigan State University originally MAC, Virginia Tech originally Virginia A&M. Alabama A&M, University of Arkansas originally Arkansas A&M?  There are many many more but you get the idea. The A stood for agriculture and except for Texas they have all changed their names.  Apparently they couldn’t wait to distance themselves from the agricultural aspect in their names. And the M?…that stood for Mechanical.

Joel, and many others say you can tell a lot about a person by what’s on their bookshelves.  I hope my bookshelf tells a little of me.

Interesting Stories & Websites To Visit In Your Spare Time and Like…Who Has Spare Time?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Dr. Robert Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Though the first video seems long-it is riveting and well worth the time and if you can’t watch it all at once maybe a little at a time. The others are short.

Omnivores DilemmaWheat BellySalt Sugar Fat

Gary Taubes William Davis IMG_2714.JPG Mika Brzezinski Signs Copies Of Her Book "Obsessed: The Fight Against America's (and My Own) Food Addiction"

Caveat:  The first four books are terrific.  I have done a lot of reading during my life and I have to say the book “Obsessed” by Mika Brezezinski is absolutely the worst book I have ever read.  It is pithy; saying nothing.  She had the opportunity with all the heavy weights in the food, medical, and health industries at her disposal, and with her highly visible platform on Morning Joe to make a difference, and she totally blew it.  Instead of educating and making that difference, she promoted her book to make money.  Mika is a Thumbs Down.

I think the reason I liked “Salt Sugar Fat” so much is because Michael Moss so heavily emphasizes how we (not just in the United States but around the world) are so manipulated, influenced and controlled by the huge food companies like Monsanto, Cargill, Con Agra, Dupont, Dow, Big Pharma, and down the line to Pepsico, General Mills, and fast foods etc.  Remember the old Dow ads; Better Living Through Chemistry?  Yikes!  Our government is in bed with all these companies every step of the way with nebulous rules and regulations that only a $1000. an hour attorney might begin to figure out.  It is so terribly difficult for any individual to deal with government.  (Believe me, I have tried).

The above books and their authors, as good as most of them are, have barely made a dent (if even that) regarding the health and safely of people.  Oh yeah, some of us are just lucky, or have the money to withstand most of the worlds food platter but the vast majority of people do not fit into this category.  They are dependent on food labels and government.

With the United States government is is truly “Caveat Emptor”  Let The Buyer Beware.

Ronald Reagan famously said, “Trust but Verify”.  At the signing of the INF Treaty, his counterpart Mikhail Gorbachev responded:  “you repeat that at every meeting,” to which Reagan answered:  “I like it”…I like it too.
