Franz Keto Bread Scam. You know, it seems that about every 3 or 4 years another slew of Low Carb Bread Scams come along and Franz Keto Bread Scam is now the newest in a very long line of companies to cheat, lie, steal from, and poison the diabetic and low carb communities. As a diabetic, I had occasion to try glucose testing this bread back on August 23rd, 2020 with disasterous results. There has been a lot of buzz about this bread and it is selling by the 100’s of 1,000s of loaves (millions?) to an unsuspecting public. A very well-known and well-respected company in the keto lowcarb community began selling this Franz “NOT Keto” Bread. I know the owner of this company (you would too), I emailed him and got what I thought was a very-well reasoned response but sadly I had to disagree with him. I bought another loaf, tested it again on December 14th, 2020 with equally bad results so I took it to Element Food Testing Laboratory (formerly Exova) here in Portland, OR, had it tested and WOW not even close. Below are my readings from the first test on August 23rd, 2020 and then the readings from December 14th, 2020. Below my testing, are the actual lab reports.
My testing method was and always has been to take a fasting reading, eat the suspected product, and take a reading every ½ hour until it begins to come down. The bread was eaten untoasted, unbuttered, and gagged down with water.
I am, for the first time ever, publishing my lab results. I’ve not done this before because lab results are not necessarily easy to read and understand but the Nutrition Facts Label based on the report and also generated by Element, pretty well tells the story. Anyway, I thought you all might want to see how the process works. Normally I would immediately file a report with the FDA and then wait for the sparks to fly. In a court room, it is never slander or libel when you have the proof. I know one thing for sure: I believe Franz Bakery and their falsely labeled Keto Bread products are ripe for a HUGE class action lawsuit because they have sold millions of loaves of bread (and hamburger buns) to the tune of millions and millions of dollars. Think Dreamfield’s Pasta.
Hoping that when you see the ingredients (See Picture 2 Above) in this falsely advertised and labeled bread (or other breads with similar ingredients and there are many of them now) you will steer clear of them. If you are diabetic they are doing damage to you every time you eat them whether you realize it or not. Dr. Bernstein says that every time you elevate your BGL over 140 it is doing damage and…I believe this. If you’re not diabetic, just doing keto, and your endocrine system is working properly, then you will probably be OK but just know that this Franz Keto Bread is also stressing your system every time you eat it. THIS FRANZ KETO BREAD is NOT Keto and…if you are like most people you are eating 2 slices of bread or 26g of carbohydrates. If you subtract fiber from carbs you are still getting a whopping 20g net carb count with NO REAL FOOD VALUE.
Here are a couple of lame responses from Franz Bakery that I got when I began tweeting about it but before having it tested. Don’t you just love their answers? I guess maybe they think this will absolve them from any liability? As for most people’s medical provider? Most medical providers don’t know their asses from their elbows about nutrition or diabetes and nearly no diabetic (I know) has kept a food diary and tested themselves three times a day for well over 10 years which is what I have done. You could ask me what I ate on any given day and I would be able to tell you not only what I ate, but how it affected my BGL. I have never injected insulin nor taken diabetic medicine of any kind which makes me a pretty good testing subject.
Here are a couple of misc. pics and as you can see the bread is not very good looking. The crusts were falling off and they had multiple holes in them. I ate two of those pieces.
So if you’ve looked at the list of ingredients, don’t care about what you put into your body, and you’re still sure you want to eat this scammy bread then hey, you can buy it as a 3 pack from Amazon. and yeah, the Franz Keto Bread Scam comes in hamburger buns too.
I am amazed that such companies/corporations have such a deviate culture as to knowingly promote and mislabel products, harming their consumer base, for the sake of being excessively greedy and covetous.
I must have eaten $200+ of this stuff!!!
I need a refund…and punitive damages to my low carb lifestyle.
Yes Joe, I agree and their behavior is nothing short of criminal.
